Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

We present a measurement of the cross section for $W$-boson production in association with jets in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{TeV}$. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $320\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ collected with the CDF II detector. $W$ bosons are identified in their electron decay channel and jets are reconstructed using a cone algorithm. For each $W+\ensuremath{\ge}n\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}\mathrm{\text{jet}}$ sample ($n=1\ensuremath{-}4$) we measure the differential cross section $d\ensuremath{\sigma}(p\overline{p}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}W+\ensuremath{\ge}n\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}\mathrm{\text{jet}})/d{E}_{T}^{\mathrm{nth}\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}\mathrm{jet}}\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\mathcal{B}(W\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\nu})$ with respect to the transverse energy ${E}_{T}$ of the $n$th-highest ${E}_{T}$ jet above 20 GeV, and the total cross section $\ensuremath{\sigma}(p\overline{p}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}W+\ensuremath{\ge}n\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}\mathrm{\text{jet}};{E}_{T}^{\mathrm{nth}\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}\mathrm{jet}}>25\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV})\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}\mathcal{B}(W\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\nu})$, for a restricted $W\ensuremath{\rightarrow}e\ensuremath{\nu}$ decay phase space. The cross sections, corrected for all detector effects, can be directly compared to particle level $W+\mathrm{\text{jet}}(\mathrm{s})$ predictions. We present here comparisons to leading order and next-to-leading order predictions.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
