La citoyenneté comme pédagogie : réflexions sur l’éducation à la citoyenneté

Abstract
Cet article vise à préciser la notion d’éducation à la citoyenneté, souvent employée dans des significations différentes, voire incompatibles. Il distingue trois aspects de la citoyenneté, correspondant à trois modèles de référence (la famille, le travail, la discussion scientifique). À partir de là, on peut définir une éducation à la citoyenneté minimale, qui se centrerait sur l’éducation aux droits de l’homme et aux libertés fondamentales. Mais on peut envisager une citoyenneté plus exigeante, qui serait d’essence pédagogique, en ce sens qu’elle vise une égalité qui va au-delà de la simple égalité des droits et concerne l’intérêt que les citoyens se portent les uns aux autres et la responsabilité mutuelle qu’ils développent entre eux.
