Abstract
La responsabilité vécue par les personnes ayant la charge d'un proche dépendant s'inscrit dans des normes qui tendent à se redéfinir dans le contexte de la modernité avancée. À partir d'expériences relatées par des « aidants principaux » de diverses régions du Québec, l'article présente une réflexion sur la responsabilité inspirée des théories philosophiques de Ricoeur et de Levinas, ainsi que d'une théorie féministe basée sur la notion de travail de la reproduction. Ayant montré que l'aide et les soins doivent être pris non pas seulement dans leur sens instrumental, mais aussi et surtout dans leurs expressions de responsabilité morale, les auteurs les analysent en fonction des liens entre aidés et aidants (conjugal, filial, amical). Aux rôles et statuts (fixés par les représentations des liens dans leur dimension plus traditionnelle et entraînant des devoirs), la responsabilité vécue associe, au sein de l'expérience, l'affectif et l'électif. Elle n'est jamais complètement le produit d'un devoir à accomplir ou d'un choix : ses deux sens « sédimentés » ouvrent pour les sujets des perspectives inédites.
