Travailler ou ne pas travailler… Le désir d’emploi des nouvelles mères et la dépression postnatale

Abstract
Cet article vise à explorer les liens qui unissent l’adéquation entre le désir d’emploi et la situation vécue, d’une part, et la présence de troubles dépressifs chez les nouvelles mères, d’autre part. Les résultats indiquent que, six mois après la naissance d’un enfant, une proportion élevée de femmes se déclarant « au foyer » souhaiterait occuper un emploi rémunéré. Chez les femmes au foyer, ce désir d’emploi est associé à la présence de symptômes dépressifs. La proportion de travailleuses désirant cesser leur activité professionnelle est moindre et ce désir n’est pas significativement associé à leur santé psychologique. Le désir d’occuper ou non un emploi est lié aux conditions de vie des nouvelles mères, ce qui soulève l’intérêt d’aborder cette variable sous un angle social et non seulement comme le reflet de valeurs individuelles.
