Abstract

Cet article a été rédigé dans le cadre d'une enquête sur les structures et l'évolution de l'économie et de la société rurale saguenéenne depuis le milieu du 19e siècle. ' Plus précisément, l'objectif général de nos travaux est de faire ressortir les traits sociaux, économiques et culturels qui apparaissent dans un contexte de peuplement caractérisé par l'éloignement, la marginalité et des difficultés de développement.2 Traitant de l'économie rurale entre 1840 et 1930, nous soumettons ici un modèle qui voudrait rendre compte de la situation de l'agriculture saguenéenne et de ses rapports avec l'économie extrarégionale, notamment avec l'industrie forestière. Seront donc visées les économies mixtes qui caractérisent les sociétés dites marginales, Essentiellement, nous suggérons que l'étude de l'économie agraire et des rapports qu'elle entretient avec le capitalisme extrarégional (ou avec des activités économiques dites externes) doit absolument tenir compte de la dynamique sociale qui est propre à la collectivité rurale, et du développement de l'économie urbaine et industrielle.
