Abstract
Dans le débat historiographique autour de la naissance de l’individu, Anselme de Cantorbéry passe souvent pour être une figure clé annonçant un Abélard ou un Guibert de Nogent et les réflexions des écoles duxiiesiècle sur cette question. Cet article, fondé sur l’étude des écrits spirituels de l’archevêque de Cantorbéry, tente alors de comprendre la réalité de cette « révolution anselmienne » en analysant comment Anselme a redéfini dans ses prières la tension dialectique entre l’homme et Dieu, et de quelle manière l’innovation spirituelle et les choix rhétoriques posés nous permettent de repenser toute cette question.
