Abstract

0 - ABSTRACT The Ariane 5 booster nozzle uses a carbon cloth phenolic material for the liners that thermally protect the metal housings and control the hot gas flow in the convergent and the exit cone sections. Beginning in 1996, Snecma Propulsion Solide developed, with the support of CNES (French Space Agency), and DGA (French Defense Agency), a process to carbonize high-tenacity r ayon in order to replace the North American Rayon Company (NARC) precursor used in the past decade for most SRM programs but declared out of production. The new material, code name C2, underwent several full-scale static tests on Ariane 5 ARTA program and other national programs for Defense. The physical properties of C2 have been shown to be equivalent or better than the NARC based product. Two high-tenacity rayon fibers have been qualified for Ariane 5 MPS nozzles: Viscord Super 3 manufactured by Glanzsto ff in Polten, Austria and Cordenka 700 manufactured by Accordis in Obernburg, Germany. The fiber is then twisted into yarn and woven into fabric by Porcher in Lyon, France. Subsequently the rolls of white woven rayon are washed, pre-treated, pyrolyzed, carbonized, inspected, and tested in a dedicated facility located on the SPS plant in Bordeaux, France. Capability to produce the C2 rayon based carbon cloth for ablative phenolic materials was fully demonstrated. Today, the production capacity is 35 tons per year. More than 60 Ariane 5 nozzles with C2 have flown successfully through fall 2010. Specific environmental restrictions on the Austrian plant of the rayon supplier Glanzstoff have resulted in a rayon source plant obsolescence declared by mid 2008. To ensure ongoing supply until a new source of fiber is qualified, SPS in agreement with its customers decided to stockpile significant quantities of rayon fiber prior to the shutdown of the Austrian production plant and activated a replacement program.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
