Cette étude s’intéresse à l’effet d’un programme scolaire d’enseignement des échecs sur le développement de l’habileté en résolution de problèmes mathématiques et sur le sentiment d’appartenance à l’égard de l’école des élèves de cinquième année du primaire. Nous avons collaboré avec l’Académie d’échecs du Québec afin d’offrir un programme scolaire d’enseignement des échecs à 67 élèves de cinquième année. Afin d’évaluer l’effet de l’intervention sur le développement de l’habileté en résolution de problèmes mathématiques et sur le sentiment d’appartenance à l’égard de l’école, nous avons administré un prétest et un posttest aux participants à l’étude. Les résultats de ces tests furent comparés à ceux d’un groupe contrôle composé de 84 élèves. L’analyse des données nous a permis de voir un effet significatif du programme d’enseignement des échecs sur l’habileté en résolution de problèmes mathématiques, ainsi qu’à l’égard d’une sous-dimension du sentiment d’appartenance, soit le sentiment d’être accepté par les pairs.
