Abstract
El trabajo nos ofrece una mirada crítica sobre los impactos socio-culturales y económicos del cultivo de transgénicos en comunidades indígenas y campesinas de la región este del Paraguay, se presta especial atención al uso del Roundup, con los indudables costos ambientales y los inciertos riesgos a la salud humana y animal. Los impactos e interacciones que la tecno-mercantilización de los organismos genéticamente modificados OGM tienen sobre las poblaciones afectadas y el medio ambiente –especies, suelo, agua, bosque, flora, fauna- se discuten en el trabajo. El alcance del uso del glifosato en cultivos transgénicos no sólo involucraría el medio ambiente del cultivo, sino que llegan a generar profundos cambios culturales, tecnológicos, de manejo, ambientales, económicos, sociales y legales, cuyos efectos ya lo vislumbramos con el ocaso de comunidades campesinas e indígenas, quienes al no encontrar estrategias adecuadas para enfrentarlos, colapsan como colectividad. El trabajo contiene importantes elementos para renovar el debate y el pensamiento crítico en torno a la problemática de la agricultura transgénica y su impacto en poblaciones indígenas y campesinas.
