The choice of DC bus reference voltage V/sub dc/ inherently affects the performance of shunt active power filter (SAPF). Indeed, an optimal choice of V/sub dc/ improves its performance in terms of harmonic current generation and avoid excess energy loss in the system. The optimal value of V/sub dc/ may be determined from an appropriate model of the system. This paper is concerned with the modelling of a SAPF by transfer function model, which allow generating a suitable reference voltage V/sub dc/ signal. This signal is therefore used to set an optimal value of the reference value V/sub dc/. For validation purpose, the proposed reference model is linked to a SAPF control circuit and is simulated with power system blockset (PSB). The simulation results show its efficiency in terms of line current compensation, THD and power factor correction. Also, better performance results and robustness are recorded when using this model reference.
