Abstract
L’entre-deux-guerres est, en France, une période propice au développement du tourisme et du canoë. Mais sous quelle forme se diffuse cette activité et quel moyen de propagande possèdent ses adeptes ? Les analyses structurales et formelles de la revue La Rivière (première revue sur la canoë publiée depuis 1906 par le Canoë Club, reconnue et diffusée sur tout le territoire hexagonal) et des récits de croisière des « manipulateurs du bout de bois » (soumis à un concours dont les critères de notation sont édités dans les statuts du CC depuis sa création en 1904) nous permettent de dire que les écrits sur les pratiques participent pleinement au développement du tourisme en canoë. Ils imposent et légitiment par leur espace de production, au même titre que les guides et carnets de voyage des explorateurs du début du xxe siècle décrits par C. Bertho-Lavenir, un modèle de tourisme et une culture canoéiste à la croisée du tourisme cultivé et du sport.
