Abstract
La pensée conspirationniste, qui postule que le cours de l’Histoire est déterminé par l’action secrète d’un petit groupe d’hommes désireux de voir la réalisation d’un projet de domination, s’est largement diffusée depuis la fin du xviii e siècle. Forme moderne de Providence sécularisée, dont la rhétorique entend convaincre par des modes de déduction d’apparence scientifique, elle est essentiellement un discours politique. Dès lors, la propagation de ces théories du complot est susceptible d’une analyse en termes de sociologie politique. Notamment pour considérer leurs usages, les acteurs qui les énoncent, et leur ambition de mobilisation. Le complotisme apparaît alors autant comme une ressource cognitive que comme un moyen de politisation. En ce début de xxi e siècle, que le conspirationnisme nie la « version officielle » des attentats du 11-Septembre, ou qu’il alerte sur la campagne nationale de vaccination contre le virus H1N1, dans laquelle il perçoit un biopouvoir instrumentalisé, il vise surtout à peser sur l’agenda politique.
