À partir de la situation des femmes d'Amérique latine et des Caraïbes, cet article tente de démystifier le concept de développement et le modèle économique productiviste, particulièrement en ce qui concerne la production agricole et l'industrialisation. L'auteure fait également une critique des statistiques concernant le travail des femmes et les ménages. La conclusion est qu'il faut changer la logique unidimensionnelle de ce modèle de développement et s'appuyer plutôt sur les victimes, au premier rang desquelles figurent les femmes.
