Abstract
Le texte de Simmel sur la mode, qui décrit les mécanismes d’imitation et de distinction, permet d’éclairer la façon dont les bénéficiaires du relooking s’approprient et incorporent un savoir-être professionnel. L’apparence est primordiale dans l’accession aux bassins d’emplois privilégiés ; or, celle-ci suppose une maîtrise de la mode en vigueur dans les milieux économiques, notamment financiers. Le relooking vise à faire de l’appartenance sociale un choix, en donnant accès à une apparence reconnue et socialement valorisée. La mode devient un enjeu, dès lors que l’apparence est perçue comme un vecteur d’ascension sociale au même titre que les diplômes. À travers l’expérience d’une organisation caritative américaine, qui relooke des femmes en difficulté pour favoriser leur insertion professionnelle, le présent article s’intéresse à la transmission des codes corporels véhiculés via la promotion d’une mode vestimentaire.
