Dans une petite ville du Nouveau-Brunswick, les chercheurs ont étudié les types de relations que des adolescents de 13-14 ans entretiennent avec leur environnement et les caractéristiques du développement de leur sensibilité environnementale. Trois moments de l’expérience avec l’environnement ont été choisis pour fins d’analyse : le trajet vers l’école, une aventure en milieu naturel comprenant un moment de solitude et l’accomplissement d’une action environnementale. Les chercheurs mettent en lumière deux types d’attention à l’environnement, identifient les aspects de l’expérience qui favorisent le développement d’une sensibilité à l’environnement et proposent un modèle de compréhension du développement de la sensibilité environnementale qui pourrait faciliter la mise en oeuvre d’activités pédagogiques visant à stimuler l’engagement des adolescents dans une action environnementale.
