Abstract
Dans ce texte, l’auteur montre que la sociologie de type américain pratiquée par Carl A. Dawson à McGill des années 1920 aux années 1950 (et presque tout entière influencée par le paradigme de l’écologie humaine de l’École de Chicago) n’a pas été la seule à être favorisée par les sociologues canadiens. Au contraire, des sociologues comme MacIver et Urwick tendaient vers une science sociale plus philosophique, plus morale et plus humaniste, une science sociale qui pourrait réconcilier la recherche des faits avec une tradition « idéaliste » des préoccupations morales.
