Abstract
Le gaumisme donne lieu au Québec, entre 1864 et 1868, à la formation de trois réseaux intellectuels. Un réseau anti-gaumiste, représenté par la faction la plus libérale du Séminaire de Québec, de l’Université Laval et de l’archevêché de Québec et deux réseaux gaumistes soutenus par Mgr Gaume : l’un extrémiste, rejoignant la majorité des diocèses hors de Québec, dirigé par Alexis Pelletier et ayant pour membres Taché et Routhier, l’autre, modéré, pris en charge par Henri-Raymond Casgrain et défendu par Crémazie, à la jonction de Gaume et de Montalembert. Or, ces réseaux gaumistes connaissent des agents doubles, se croisent puis se dissocient en 1868. Casgrain et ses troupes se rangent alors du côté libéral modéré. Le débat gaumiste contribue donc à configurer le réseau littéraire naissant en deux grandes tendances idéologiques signalées par l’histoire littéraire.
