Abstract
Quels types de rapports les usagers des espaces publics ont-ils avec les oeuvres d’art qui y sont installées? Cet article porte sur les publics des oeuvres d’art dans les espaces publics. Il s’appuie sur la définition que fait la sociologie urbaine des espaces publics pour comprendre les contributions de ces oeuvres à la vie sociale et à la culture urbaines. Dans le cadre d’une recherche exploratoire, le cas du square Saint-Louis de Montréal a permis de mettre cette proposition à l’épreuve. L’observation filmée a été utilisée pour documenter et analyser différents registres d’interaction qu’entretiennent les publics avec deux oeuvres d’art commémoratives qui s’y trouvent.
