Abstract
Using the chemical bond theory of dielectric description, the chemical bond parameters of the M-, W-type hexagonal barium ferrites were calculated. The hardness of BaFe 12 O 19 and BaFe 18 O 27 were calculated. The calculated hardness of BaFe 12 O 19 is 5.9 GPa, which is in agreement with the experimental values. The calculated hardness of planes parallel to the c axis of BaFe 18 O 27 is 5.5 GPa, which is smaller than that of BaFe 12 O 19. .
