En Ontario, depuis 1993, le Programme d'études commun de la première à la neuvième année intègre les disciplines scolaires dans quatre champs d'études, dont celui des Mathématiques, sciences et technologie. Cette restructuration doit être prise en compte dans les programmes de formation des enseignants. À cette fin, une démarche exploratoire a été entreprise à l'Université d'Ottawa auprès des étudiants en formation initiale au cycle intermédiaire du secondaire (de la septième à la dixième année). Il s'agit de développer et d'utiliser deux stratégies de formation, l'une dans l'enseignement formel à l'Université, l'autre lors d'un stage en milieu scolaire, où les futurs enseignants sont invités à expérimenter des actes pédagogiques de type interdisciplinaire. Les deux stratégies sont décrites et les résultats de leur mise à l'essai sont discutés.
