Recently, the Zemach radius of the proton has been calculated from experimental data using four different approaches, and the results do not agree with each other within the claimed accuracy. We assume that the puzzle might be solved by determining the Zemach radius from the hyperfine splitting of muonic hydrogen, and overview the present status of the theory of the hyperfine structure of muonic hydrogen as well as the possibilities to measure it with a satisfactory accuracy.
