Abstract
Résumé Les références à l’architecture gothique sont multiples tout au long du xix e siècle ; sous différentes formes et avec des contenus variés : représentation et mimétisme, dans l’architecture religieuse ; rationalisme de l’art de bâtir dans l’architecture civile et industrielle ; gothique polémique, porteur d’une vérité, avec le naturalisme de l’art décoratif gothique – une des sources du répertoire ornemental de l’Art nouveau. Au xx e siècle, la référence au gothique est actualisée par la mise au point d’une architecture en béton armé, reçue avec emphase par l’Église catholique, qui y trouve la réponse attendue à l’horizon d’attente d’un art sacré contemporain.
