Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

We report two measurements of the top-quark mass ${M}_{\mathrm{top}}$ using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron in a $318\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$ data sample of $t\overline{t}$ events in the $\mathrm{\text{lepton}}+\mathrm{\text{jets}}$ final state. One method uses an event-based likelihood technique resulting in ${M}_{\mathrm{top}}={173.2}_{\ensuremath{-}2.4}^{+2.6}(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}3.2(\mathrm{syst})\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$ or ${173.2}_{\ensuremath{-}4.0}^{+4.1}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$. The second method reconstructs a top-quark mass in each event using the measured invariant mass of the hadronically decaying $W$ boson to constrain the jet energy scale to obtain a value for ${M}_{\mathrm{top}}$ of ${173.5}_{\ensuremath{-}3.6}^{+3.7}(\mathrm{stat})\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1.3(\mathrm{syst})\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$ or ${173.5}_{\ensuremath{-}3.8}^{+3.9}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{GeV}/{c}^{2}$. We take the latter, which is more precise, as our result.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
