Cette étude traite du profil motivationnel des étudiants de collèges et d'universités au regard du français écrit. Cent quarante-six sujets ont répondu à des énoncés qui ont porté sur leurs perceptions des causes de leurs succès et de leurs échecs dans la réalisation de tâches de français écrit, sur la valeur qu'ils portent à ces tâches et sur la perception qu'ils ont de leur compétence à les accomplir. Les résultats démontrent que les étudiants faibles de l'échantillon ont tendance à attribuer principalement leurs échecs en écriture à leur manque de connaissances et d'attention, et leurs succès, à l'effort qu'ils y ont consacré. Sur le plan de la perception de leur compétence, ils s'accordent une compétence moyenne à accomplir les différentes tâches en français écrit. Rédiger un texte pour un examen de français et faire un plan sont les tâches à l'égard desquelles ils se perçoivent le plus compétents et corriger leur propre texte, celle où ils se perçoivent le moins souvent compétents. Toutefois, corriger leur propre texte s'avère la tâche qu'ils valorisent le plus, alors que faire un plan est celle qu'ils valorisent le moins.
