Abstract
La comparaison de taux absolus d’exogamie ou de transfert linguistique présente une image biaisée de la réalité aussitôt que les groupes culturels en présence ne sont pas de taille égale. On obtient une solution satisfaisante à ce problème en mesurant la propension à l’exogamie ou au transfert respectivement au moyen du rapport entre les taux observés et les taux attendus sous l’hypothèse d’une différenciation culturelle nulle des choix matrimoniaux ou linguistiques. Cette méthode d’ajustement se confirme à l’usage préférable à d’autres indices employés en démographie des groupes linguistiques au Canada.
