Abstract
A Plusieurs études en santé mentale au travail témoignent d'une recrudescence des problèmes de santé mentale. Ces problèmes, reliés aux rapports de travail, ont toutefois des causes sociales plus larges dans la mesure où l'anomie sociale qui frappe le Québec, à l'instar de plusieurs autres sociétés industrielles de cette fin de siècle, a des échos dans le monde du travail. La frileuse régulation sociale dont sont responsables, en principe, les institutions sociales et l'État, a permis à l'entreprise d'occuper une place centrale et au travail, de devenir le lieu privilégié de la quête identitaire que poursuit tout individu. Cette centralité du travail est porteuse de lourdes contradictions et déceptions car, malgré le discours qui peut faire illusion, l'entreprise, fidèle à sa logique économique, récupère et pervertit ce qu'il y a de plus noble chez l'individu, sa quête et son désir de se définir comme sujet et d'être reconnu comme tel, le laissant ainsi fragilisé et parfois déconstruit psychiquement.
