Abstract
L’article propose une vision d’ensemble des raisons de l’intérêt de la sociologie pour l’individu. Une fois rappelés le modèle classique du personnage social et ses difficultés actuelles, il présente, en partant de l’expérience de la modernité, les grands principes d’une sociologie de l’individu, avant d’expliciter le rôle particulier qui revient dans ce contexte à l’étude du processus d’individuation. Enfin, dans la dernière partie, l’article explore l’apparition de nouvelles demandes sociales et leurs conséquences pour le travail sociologique prenant pour objet l’individu.
