Abstract
Depuis le début des recherches sur l’art rupestre du Bouclier canadien, les autochtones parlent de Maymaygwashiuk, le petit peuple poilu. Après un texte bref à propos d’une rencontre entre un Amérindien et le Petit Peuple, l’auteur analyse le mode de vie de ces “êtres fantastiques”, leur aspect, leur rôle d’intercesseur et leur lien avec les peintures rupestres. Il conclut que les Maymaygwashiuk sont fortement liés au Tonnerre et aux Oiseaux-Tonnerre et remarque que si les études anthropologiques n’apportent pas d’explications définitives, elles mettent au moins l’archéologue sur la piste d’interprétations pertinentes.
