Le projet fait désormais partie des « bonnes pratiques » en GRH. Malgré ce consensus parmi les praticiens, il n’existe pas de modèle théorique expliquant la construction des projets de mobilité interne. On propose donc un modèle du projet à partir du paradigme de la construction du sens. Ce modèle est ensuite illustré grâce à l’étude du cas d’une population de commerciaux. Les données recueillies longitudinalement montrent l’influence de l’appréciation des managers et des performances sur la construction des projets. Ils montrent aussi l’influence normative de la carrière organisationnelle traditionnelle. Le modèle présenté et les résultats obtenus permettent de suggérer, en conclusion, une nouvelle définition de la carrière.
