El autor compara el esplendor de la poesía y los poetas en el reinado de al-Mutamid de Sevilla y su posterior decadencia con "otro eclipse" -el del último cuarto de este siglo- en el que, según su opinión, la poesía no tiene el valor de antaño y los poetas son considerados seres extemporáneos. Reflexiona sobre la situación actual, analiza las posibles causas, sugiere los pilares donde cimentar una educación de la sensibilidad poética y aboga por la recuperación del prestigio de la poesía en la escuela y en la sociedad.
