A programmable-gain amplifier (PGA) for in- vehicle power-line communication (PLC) is implemented in 0.13-μm CMOS. The PGA robustly operates over the extended automotive temperature range of -55°C to +125°C. A transconductance boosting technique is employed to improve the linearity of the amplifier. Post-layout simulation results confirm that the amplifier achieves a gain range of 0 to 60 dB, while the variation of each gain setting is less than 0.3 dB when the temperature changes from -30°C to +80°C, and is less than 0.9 dB when the temperature changes from -55°C to +125°C. The P <sub xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">1dB</sub> of the PGA at its minimum gain is 2.5 dBm, and the -3-dB bandwidth of the circuit at its maximum gain is 90 MHz. The PGA consumes less than 9.0 mW from a 1.2 V supply.
