Malgré des contextes différents, les agriculteurs des chinampas au Mexique et du lac Inlé en Birmanie ont développé des techniques similaires de production en milieu lacustre, qui sont encore fonctionnelles aujourd’hui. Ces systèmes à haut rendement sont totalement adaptés à la présence permanente de l’eau. Mais depuis quelques années, l’évolution des sociétés et le développement de nouvelles activités entraînent une mutation partielle ou complète de ces systèmes traditionnels qui risquent, à terme, de disparaître.
