L'auteure présente un compte rendu de deux tables rondes qui ont été tenues en décembre 1985, à la fin de l'Année internationale de la jeunesse, et qui regroupaient des jeunes vivant des problèmes personnels, familiaux ou scolaires. Les thèmes discutés lors de ces réunions sont : (a famille, l'école, les loisirs, l'informatique, le pouvoir, les relations avec les professionnels aidants, l'Année internationale de la jeunesse, et l'avenir. Outre une description des participants, on y relate leurs propos et dégage quelques-unes de leurs caractéristiques communes
