Abstract
Les transcriptions de la langue wyandote varient beaucoup selon ceux qui la transcrivent et selon leur langue maternelle. Cette note de recherche démontre que le fait de connaître le système de sons de la langue maternelle des transcripteurs peut ultimement mieux nous éclairer sur les particularités phonétiques de la langue wyandote. Plus particulièrement, en comparant les choix orthographiques d’anglophones comme William Connelley avec ceux de francophones comme Marius Barbeau, ou encore de locuteurs d’autres langues iroquoiennes tels que J.N.B. Hewitt (un Tuscarora), nous pouvons cibler les sons qu’ils ont réellement entendus puisque les transcriptions dont ils faisaient usage étaient basées sur la phonologie de leurs langues respectives.
