Abstract
By 2031 the number of people aged 65 and over in the UK is expected to be more than 15 million—nearly a quarter of the population (Office of National Statistics, 2010). Caring for older people has always been one of the top priorities for hospitals, yet it requires special expertise (Royal College of Nursing, 2004). In this article, Claire Lowther focuses on how age can affect a person’s health and recovery, with particular reference to enhanced recovery and stoma care.
