Comment traiter du potin en littérature ? Parce qu’il s’établit d’emblée, dans l’esprit du public comme dans celui du spécialiste, une hiérarchie entre les discours, on peut tenter de déplacer sur la frange ce qu’on met habituellement au centre en redéfinissant les préséances en même temps que les outils de la critique littéraire. Ce qui amène à poser non seulement la question de l’essentiel et de l’accessoire, mais aussi du caractère universel des liens entre potin et littérature. Que faire si le contenu, le fonctionnement, les modes de relation sont les mêmes ? On voudrait utiliser quelques exemples d’œuvres peu réputées pour leur caractère frivole pour montrer comment le potin s’immisce dans les stratégies littéraires et y règne parfois en maître.
