Abstract
Le contexte actuel de globalisation des marchés, de libéralisation des échanges commerciaux et de changements technologiques rapides, impose de nouveaux défis aux entreprises manufacturières. Dans un tel contexte, la capacité innovatrice de ces entreprises revêt une importance primordiale. Or, cette capacité innovatrice ne se limite pas à déployer des efforts pour introduire de nouveaux produits et services ou encore de nouveaux procédés, efforts traditionnellement évalués, entre autres, par l’investissement en recherche et développement et par l’acquisition de nouvelles technologies. Il faut aussi pouvoir tirer profit des opportunités créées par ces nouvelles conditions technologiques, et savoir développer des compétences distinctives, ce qui ne peut se réaliser sans une concertation étroite entre les objectifs poursuivis et les moyens mis en oeuvre pour les atteindre. Stratégie d’entreprise et stratégie technologique doivent donc être liées de telle sorte que l’effort innovateur puisse tenir compte du positionnement concurrentiel actuel et désiré d’une entreprise. Pour les PME manufacturières, cette congruence entre la fin et les moyens pourrait s’avérer essentielle compte tenu de leur plus grande vulnérabilité tant sur le plan de la compétitivité que celui du risque financier associé à diverses formes d’innovation. Cette recherche est centrée sur l’étude d’un ensemble d’efforts innovateurs retrouvés dans les PME manufacturières et aux relations qui peuvent exister entre ces efforts innovateurs et le positionnement concurrentiel.
