Abstract
El objetivo de la investigación es manifestar los efectos reales de la promoción de ventas en productos de gran consumo (FMCG). Para contrastar las hipótesis planteadas en relación con la falta de relevancia de la actividad promocional en la evolución de la cuota de marca, tanto en el corto como en el largo plazos, se desarrolla un modelo de ecuaciones estructurales con datos de la categoría de whisky estándar. Se intenta explicar el origen del incremento de ventas por actividad promocional en categorías maduras, como un anticipo de la compra, y se confirma la importancia de variables comerciales como diferencial de precio y presencia de marca en el surtido, como fundamentales para la explicación de la evolución de la cuota de marca. Las conclusiones alcanzadas son muy relevantes para el sector de productos de gran consumo, y para la relación de poder entre fabricantes y detallistas.
