Marx et la tradition cosmopolite : l’actualité d’une tension

Abstract
La décennie qui a suivi l’effondrement du bloc de l’Est a suscité différentes reformulations du projet d’un ordre international libéral. Elle a également mené à la réactualisation du projet philosophique des Lumières, notamment en ce qui a trait à la philosophie kantienne de l’histoire qui envisageait l’établissement d’une confédération cosmopolite de républiques démocratiques. Or, la littérature récente sur le concept d’empire et d’impérialisme nous a rappelé qu’il y a des raisons d’être méfiants à l’endroit de l’économie politique du discours cosmopolite. Cette tension entre la tradition cosmopolite et certaines positions sociologiques énoncées notamment par la tradition marxiste n’est pas récente. Cet article revient sur la genèse de cette tension et tente de formuler les trois principaux défis auxquels fait face une actualisation de la tradition cosmopolite qui cherche à prendre en compte les développements contemporains de différents secteurs des sciences sociales.
