Abstract
Cette étude montre, à l’aide des données du Recensement des établissements et de l’emploi à Montréal, que cette ville se conforme d’assez près aux schèmes de localisation que prédit la théorie microéconomique quant à la concentration spatiale de chaque activité et quant à son association spatiale avec l’ensemble des activités, de même qu’avec chacune des autres activités individuellement. L’analyse a mis en évidence le complexe des activités de bureau, regroupé au centre-ville, qui comprend les services intermédiaires, ainsi que des secteurs qui s’y rattachent à cause de la part prépondérante qu’y occupent les sièges sociaux et bureaux administratifs. Avec certains services banals, plus dispersés, ces secteurs forment le noyau des activités urbaines centrales, qui influence fortement la répartition globale de l’emploi. Par contre, les activités manufacturières et le secteur institutionnel ont leurs schèmes propres, en grande partie indépendants de l’ensemble.
