Abstract Zwitterionische Komplexe von Platinmetallen, die sich durch eine formale Ladungstrennung zwischen einem kationischen Metallfragment und einem negativ geladenen Hilfsliganden auszeichnen, vereinigen das wünschenswerte Reaktivitätsprofil verwandter kationischer Komplexe mit der besseren Löslichkeit und Lösungsmitteltoleranz neutraler Spezies. Daher sind zwitterionische Komplexe dieser Art interessante Kandidaten für vielfältige Anwendungen, insbesondere für Reaktionen, in denen E‐H‐ und E‐C‐σ‐Bindungen zu Hauptgruppenelementen E gespalten und/oder gebildet werden. Hier werden Fortschritte bei der Entwicklung von Hilfsliganden vorgestellt, die die Synthese von Zwitterionen der Platinmetalle ermöglichten, und die Ergebnisse stöchiometrischer und katalytischer Untersuchungen werden zusammengefasst, wobei die Reaktivitäten der Zwitterionen und ihrer üblicherweise eingesetzten kationischen Verwandten bei der σ‐Bindungsaktivierung verglichen werden.
