Abstract
Une solution doit être trouvée au dossier des accommodements raisonnables, mais à qui confier la responsabilité de cette tâche, les tribunaux ou bien l’État ? Pour l’auteur, seul l’État peut et doit se charger d’aborder directement et franchement ces problèmes. Ainsi, l’État peut légitimement demander et exiger des Églises, de leurs fidèles et adeptes que les croyances, commandements, enseignements, diktats de quelque religion que ce soit, n’apparaissent ou ne jouent aucun rôle dans l’espace public. C’est par l’entremise de la laïcité que l’auteur soutient sa position. Il termine en proposant une loi qui constituerait une déclaration de principes servant au balisage précis de l’action de tous dans l’espace public, que ce soit du côté des institutions ou du côté des citoyens.
