Cette étude s’intéresse aux stratégies d’intervention des parents faiblement scolarisés suite aux méprises et aux blocages de leur enfant de 1ère année pendant la lecture à voix haute, ainsi qu’au niveau d’étayage qu’ils démontent lors d’une telle activité. Un échantillon composé de 42 dyades parent-enfant ont participé à cette recherche. Des analyses effectuées à partir d’enregistrement vidéo dans lesquelles l’enfant fait la lecture à l’un de ses parents ont permis de faire des comparaisons entre trois groupes de parents selon leur niveau de scolarité. Les résultats suggèrent que les parents faiblement scolarisés ne se distinguent pas de façon significative des parents ayant terminé le secondaire ou des études professionnelles quant aux stratégies d’intervention et au niveau d’étayage. Toutefois, ils se distinguent des parents ayant entrepris ou complété des études collégiales ou universitaires. Face aux méprises et aux blocages de l’enfant, les parents faiblement scolarisés interviennent souvent en l’orientant vers le décodage alors que les parents ayant des études post-secondaires interviennent davantage en signalant l’erreur ou en reconnaissant le blocage. Par ailleurs, les parents faiblement scolarisés offrent à leur enfant un étayage de moindre qualité que les parents ayant un niveau d’étude post-secondaire. Les stratégies d’intervention des parents, de même que la qualité de l’étayage offert sont associées aux compétences en lecture de leur enfant.
