Abstract
Les relations entre transports ferroviaire et fluvial ont surtout été envisagées sous l'angle de l'impitoyable concurrence à laquelle se sont livrés les deux modes pour le transport de masse. Aujourd'hui toutefois, un intérêt croissant est porté à leur éventuelle complémentarité. Ce discours encore émergent est porté aussi bien par les grands opérateurs de transport dans le couloir de la Seine que par les autorités portuaires qui ont hérité d'installations ferroviaires portuaires. Le rapprochement des deux modes est aussi vivement encouragé par les autorités publiques avec pour ambition de faire jouer aux ports un rôle de plateformes multimodales en cohérence avec une politique de transfert modal. Après avoir rappelé les éléments contextuels, cette contribution qui s'inscrit dans une perspective d'aménagement cherche à établir les possibles complémentarités des modes fluvial et ferroviaire dans le cadre des ports franciliens dont la gestion a été confiée à Ports de Paris en 2012.
