L'échange illégal d'armes à feu est toujours décrit comme un processus informel. Les armes à feu circulent d'ordinaire entre personnes privées qui sont généralement liées entre elles dans un certain contexte social. Les données utilisées dans cet article ont été obtenues au cours d'entrevues avec 21 détenus qui avaient réussi à se procurer illégalement des armes à feu dans la région de Montréal. L'auteur examine les caractéristiques des liens sociaux reliant les personnes qui ont participé dans ce trafic illégal d'armes à feu. Pour comprendre quelles sortes de contacts sont les plus utiles et comment sont amorcées les transactions, l'auteur utilise comme cadre principal d'analyse celui qui porte sur les réseaux de relations personnelles.
