e live in interesting times. Never before hasit been easier for people to travel this plan-et. It is estimated that each year more than 1 bil-lion people travel internationally by air. Hundredsof millions of others, displaced by fear, famine,and war cross international boundaries on foot.Clearly the world is changing, and Canada per-haps mirrors this reality better than most.Canada has an immigration rate three times theper capita rate of the United States. Eighty per-cent of Canadian immigrants are members of visi-ble minorities, many from the developing world.Fifty-four percent of the population in Toronto,Ont, comprises visible minorities.
