Abstract
La société fait face aux diverses situations qui l’affectent en mettant en place des mécanismes de régulation qui prennent plusieurs formes. Comme il a été démontré par plusieurs recherches, les modes étatiques de régulation sociale pénale sont loin d’être les plus utilisés, au quotidien, pour contrer les situations qui peuvent causer du tort social. Plutôt, il existerait un grand nombre de mécanismes, plus ou moins formels, qui régulent la société pour minimiser les torts sociaux. En adoptant ce postulat de base, j’explore l’activité de médiation sociale du Québec comme pratique alternative de régulation des conflits du quotidien. Par une méthode qualitative et une approche phénoménologique, je tente d’accéder au point de vue des médiateurs sociaux qui sont bénévoles au sein d’organismes qui offrent des services de médiation, afin de mieux comprendre comment ils sont mobilisés et comment ils perçoivent leur rôle comme acteurs « alternatifs » de la régulation sociale.
