Abstract
Par rapport à la migration en général et à la migration vers la ville en particulier, la femme africaine apparaît le plus souvent comme un agent passif, voire comme la victime d'un phénomène dont le centre de décision lui est extérieur. II semble pourtant que la réalite soit de plus en plus nuancée. Partir vers la ville peut être un moyen d'amélioration du statut. Du moment que la scolarisation féminine est en net progrès un peu partout sur le continent, que la crise économique perdure en s'accentuant en milieu rural, et que l'ouverture du monde africain s'amplifie par les moyens de communication, la migration vers les villes ira croissant et concernera autant les femmes que les hommes. Mais pour bien s'insérer dans le milieu urbain et améliorer leur statut, les femmes doivent posséder une bonne qualification professionnelle et (ou) un capital financier important dès le depart. Les décideurs devront tenir compte de ces aspects de la question, plutôt que de soutenir des stratégies contre la migration vers la ville qui, pour le moment, restent sans effet.
