Le stress hydro-thermique a été évalué pour la région du sud du Québec à l’aide des images SPOT VEGETATION (VGT) et NOAA AVHRR, pour deux saisons de croissance (1999 et 2000). Pour extraire la température de surface à l’aide des images AVHRR, l’algorithme ‘split-window’ (Coll et al., 1994b) a été choisi suite à la comparaison avec six algorithmes connus.\nLes réseaux de neurones artificiels ont été entraînés pour la détection des nuages sur les données quotidiennes synthèses (S1) et les données P. Cette analyse montre que les réseaux identifient les nuages avec plus de précision que le masque standard fourni avec les données. Les réseaux détectent non seulement les nuages épais et brillants, mais également les nuages minces et peu brillants. Comme autre application, les réseaux ont été employés pour estimer la température de l'air. Les variables d’entrées pour les réseaux étaient les cinq bandes de l'image AVHRR, l'altitude de surface, l'angle de zénith solaire, et le jour julien. Le réseau utilisant toutes les données d’entrée a fourni les meilleurs résultats, avec 22 noeuds dans la couche cachée.\nLe ‘normalized difference vegetation index’ (NDVI) et le ‘normalized difference water index’ (NDWI) sont déduits de SPOT VGT pour évaluer l’état hydrique végétal et la température de surface a été obtenu des images AVHRR pour l’état thermique. Ces deux indices de végétation forment un nouvel indice d’humidité normalisée (NMI) qui s’est révélé inversement corrélé à la température de surface. Un trapèze, exploitant les valeurs de la température de surface et du NMI, permet d’identifier le statut hydro-thermique du couvert végétal. Ces résultats sont validés par une comparaison avec les indices forêt-météo de la méthode canadienne.\n
