Je vais donc analyser le profil de ces frontaliers qui ne deviennent jamais autres, ni grace a la proximite des Etats-Unis, ni grace a leur residence dans ce pays. Ils ne reussissent pas renegocier leur identite au regard des deux paradigmes de notre modernite—la reconnaissance des Etats-Unis, la vie aux Etats-Unis—alors prives de pertinence: ces frontaliers parcourent une frontiere en ruines, produit manifeste 171 de cette modernite, elle-meme en ruines....comment se reinvente, jusqu’a se transformer en mythe, le recit du nord du Mexique en meme temps que se reinvente un concept avorte de nation? Ces questions sont elles-memes indissociables d’une recusation de la notion d’hybridite, souvent attachee a l’espace de la frontiere et aux migrants mexicains.
